First we are going to dive into the AFC Championship Game between the Bengals and the Chiefs. The Bengals have won the last three contests between these two. We give a lot of love to Joe Burrow and what they do offensively. Rightfully so, they play great football with a great, young quarterback. But in these matchups, I might argue that the defense is just as responsible as the offense for winning these football games. The plan they come up with and some nuance they add to the defense when playing the Chiefs have really slowed them down and have made it hard on Patrick Mahomes. A lot of the stuff that he has to do is moving around with his feet and buying extra time, which obviously is going to be interesting to watch with the ankle injury.
If you’re a football junkie, like me, and you love the chess match between the offense and defense, you love this tape. So many great things that the Bengals do and nuances they add to stop Travis Kelce, to make sure Patrick Mahomes is holding the football. A lot of people say, we don’t want him to hold the football because he is so good when he buys time, but they have a plan when he starts to buy time. They don’t let him buy time on his own. They have the spies that attack him and so he has to be aware of those that are running at him and not just the three guys that are rushing. They do some really good things and I’m sure those are going to pop up in this championship game because they have so much success with it.
